Senior Support Worker / Team Leader – Children’s Residential Home


About the Role

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people?

We’re looking for Senior Support Workers / Team Leaders to join our dedicated team within a children’s residential home. In this vital role, you’ll help create a safe, nurturing, and consistent environment where young people can thrive.

You’ll support the Manager and Deputy Manager, lead and motivate a small team, and act as a positive role model to both staff and residents.


Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Support Worker / Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead shifts and ensure a high standard of care and support at all times

  • Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with children and young people

  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to junior staff

  • Support young people with daily routines, education, and emotional wellbeing

  • Manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively

  • Ensure compliance with care plans, safeguarding procedures, and Ofsted regulations

  • Promote independence, personal growth, and a sense of belonging for every young person


Candidate Requirements

We’re looking for individuals who have:

  • Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Children & Young People’s Workforce (or willingness to complete)

  • Experience in residential childcare or similar settings

  • Experience supporting young people with learning disabilities (LD) – desirable

  • Transferable experience from mental health, paediatrics, or psychology backgrounds welcomed

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, consistent relationships

  • Confidence in managing behaviour and promoting emotional regulation

  • Flexibility to work varied shifts including days, nights, weekends, and sleep-ins

  • Aged 21+ (industry regulation)

  • Full UK driving licence – desirable
